What happens during All-on-4 treatment?
1. Initial Consultation
Your first step towards All-on-4 dental implants in Houston is scheduling an initial consultation. During this consultation, one of our expert doctors will examine your mouth and do a CT scan. This scan allows us to assess your current situation and determine the best treatment plan. We will check your existing jaw bone density to determine exactly where the implants should be placed.
2. Surgery
If you have any teeth that need to be extracted before implants are inserted, this can usually be done on the same day. Your dentist will help you feel comfortable during the procedure so you won’t feel any pain. Once your mouth is cleaned and prepared for the implants, we place the implants and check the fit of your new teeth. This first round of teeth is usually a temporary set that will be replaced a few months later.
3. Aftercare
There is normally some bruising and swelling in the few days after the surgery, but this is usually mild. For the first few months after treatment, it is best to stick to softer foods so you don’t disturb the process of implants fusing with the bone. Once the new implants are in place, you will brush and clean them like normal teeth.
4. Final fitting
A few months after surgery, your permanent All-on-4 Overdenture Implant is ready. This set is usually made from porcelain or another durable and high quality material. At this point, you will only need to return to the dental office for regular check ups and maintenance.
Different types of dental implants
Different types of dental implants can benefit you in a variety of ways. More than half the adults in our country are missing at least one tooth. Whether you have one missing tooth or several missing teeth, or even if you’re missing all of your teeth, we can help! Antoine Dental Center is one of the only offices in the Houston area equipped with the state-of-the-art technology necessary for dental implant procedures. We offer traditional dental implants, mini dental implants, All-on-4 implants, and All-on-6 implants.
All types of dental implant procedures share one common goal: to replace your missing tooth root. A dental implant is a titanium screw that is surgically implanted in your jaw; once the implant has healed it will integrate into your jawbone. We can then place a variety of dental restorations on a dental implant including crowns, bridges, or dentures.
Traditional implants
We use traditional implants for patients with good oral health. To be a candidate for traditional dental implants, you will need to have sufficient density in your jawbone to support the implant. We use 3D imaging technology to evaluate the health of your jaw and plan your dental implant procedure. Placement of the dental implant is a quick process which can be made completely pain-free through sedation dentistry.
Mini dental implants
We also offer mini dental implants. Mini dental implants are the most affordable dental implants and can be effective for healthy patients and for patients who lack the jawbone density needed for traditional implants. The Antoine Dental Center is well equipped to place these affordable dental implants.
Mini implants are smaller than traditional dental implants, which means that they aren’t as strong. Despite that drawback, they offer other advantages because they can generally be placed in a single visit, require less healing time, and can be used to immediately stabilize dentures.
If you are missing all of your teeth, you may be a candidate for All-on-4 or All-on-6 implants. These dental implant procedures use a set of 4 or 6 dental implants to support a set of permanent dental bridges. We even provide temporary teeth on the same day as your appointment, so your smile will look great!
How long do All-on-4 implants last?
With All-on-4 dental implants, the bones remain healthy and the gums are stable so the implants are likely to last a very long time. It is not uncommon for a patient to use the same implants for over 20 years!
How to clean all-on-four dental implants?
A thorough dental cleaning, including brushing and flossing underneath the gum line, is a great start. Toothbrushing can be done in a proper technique or with an electric toothbrush with fluoride toothpaste. In-depth brushing should happen at least 2 times per day for 2 minutes each time.
What happens if one of my implants fails?
If an implant fails, the patient will most likely need to replace it. Patients should not be too anxious about this failure specifically – all implants have a small failure rate, and even if one falls out or ruptures, there are many other techniques available for reconstruction. The key is to stay calm at checkups so that any problems can be detected early enough to take action before they escalate.
What factors affect implant success?
1) a high level of dental hygiene. Gum disease is associated with an increased risk of implant failure, and can complicate any post-surgical healing process.
2) an individual’s smoking habits. Smoking has been found to create a cyclical pattern for implant survival, where implants heal faster initially after their placement, before quickly failing due to the effects of smoking on wound healing and bone density.
3) inexperience or lack of training with regard to dentistry or oral surgery procedures in general.
