Common Dental Problems We Treat

Many times our patients have questions regarding their oral health, dental care, and their dental treatment options. At Antoine Dental Center in Houston, we believe educating our patients about dental health, dental care, and treatment options are important to ensure the best oral health possible. If you suffer from any of the following common dental problems contact our Houston dental office to schedule an appointment.

Treating Bad Breath

Many patients are often worried about their breath; luckily there are many at home care techniques and treatments that can help address this common issue. Making sure to brush, floss and clean your tongue regularly at home is one great way. Routine dental examinations and cleanings can also help ensure that bacteria that causes bad breath doesn’t build up. During your examination, we can check your overall oral health and make sure another issue isn’t contributing to bad breath.

Fixing Crooked Teeth

Many Americans suffer from crooked and misaligned teeth. However, there are many dental treatments available that can help correct the appearance of your smile. Antoine Dental Center offers traditional braces, ceramic braces, and even Invisalign to help correct alignment issues. Veneers may also be a solution that offers a quick makeover. However, veneers are primarily a cosmetic treatment.

Repairing Cracked/Chipped Teeth

Cracked teeth don’t just have a negative impact on your dental health, but can also cause cosmetic issues. At Antoine Dental Center we offer tooth-colored fillings, crowns and even veneers as a treatment option for patients who suffer from chipped teeth. Depending on your dental health and desires, we can come up with the perfect treatment plan.

Correcting Discolored Teeth

Most Americans dream of a bright, white smile and luckily that is more obtainable than ever with cosmetic dentistry. Routine dental examinations and cleanings can help prevent your teeth from ever becoming discolored, along with proper at-home care. We also offer teeth whitening treatment in office and at home. For more severe discoloration, veneers may also be an option.

Detecting Oral Cancer

Oral cancer is a deadly disease that sadly affects many Americans. Although it has been prevalent in many adults, detection and treatment in early stages can cure it. At Antoine Dental Center we perform oral cancer screenings during every dental examination and cleaning. We recommend routine checkups every six months, to ensure we can detect and treat oral cancer before it becomes a bigger problem.

Treating Periodontal or Gum Disease

Gum disease is a common dental condition that typically requires dental intervention. Depending on the severity of your periodontal disease we may recommend a deep cleaning or gum surgery. Routine dental examinations and cleanings can help in the prevention of gum disease.

Eliminating Toothaches

Toothaches are sometimes perceived as a routine dental issue, but they can represent a serious health problem. Infection, the most common cause of a toothache, can spread throughout the mouth and beyond. The causes of toothaches can vary and can affect the type of toothache treatment chosen by our dentist.Toothache treatment generally focuses on saving the tooth when possible. In many cases, infected teeth are treated with endodontic procedures, such as root canal and surgery. Endodontic options involve eliminating the infection and protecting the tooth from re-occurrence of the problem. When a tooth is too badly damaged for endodontics to be effective, extraction may be the only viable option for toothache treatment.Houston, TX patients who experience toothache should seek toothache treatment right away to regain comfort and prevent serious complications. In many cases, eliminating the pain does not require removing the tooth. Patients can schedule a consultation with one of our Houston dentists to learn more about toothaches and how they are treated.

Preventing Tooth Decay

Tooth decay is the 2nd most common disease in America. At Antoine Dental Center we believe prevention is the best dental treatment available. Routine dental examinations and cleanings can help prevent decay. We also recommend sealants and fluoride treatments for patients with frequent cavities. Unfortunately, at this time, tooth decay is not reversible, but we offer various treatments that can help prevent further decay. Tooth-colored fillings, crowns, inlays, and onlays can all be used for the treatment of tooth decay depending on your specific situation and oral health.

Detecting Tooth Erosion

Tooth erosion is an extremely common dental issue caused by acid wearing away enamel. It is also extremely easy to prevent with proper dental hygiene and preventative care. Sealants and fluoride treatments can help protect your teeth from erosion. We also recommend routine dental examinations and cleanings to help detect and prevent erosion.

Solving Tooth Sensitivity

Tooth sensitivity can emerge quickly, but it often develops over time. A variety of causes may lead to sensitive teeth, including exposure to erosive factors and lack of good oral hygiene. However, several solutions are also available from our Houston dentist to restore comfort.Treatment for tooth sensitivity varies with the cause. For cavity-related sensitivity, a filling may resolve the problem. Crowns, veneers, and bonding are potential solutions for sensitivity caused by tooth wear and breakage. In cases of severe tooth damage, a root canal and crown may be necessary. Sensitivity from gum disease may point to the need for gum tissue grafting to protect the dentin. Finally, some sensitive teeth simply need time and help to recover naturally. Fluoride and desensitizing toothpaste can be used to speed repair and maintain comfort in the meantime.
